For 3 years now, we have been spending our Saturdays in November - March in the warmth and humidity that are the YMCA pools in Iowa. The key to capturing the splash is arriving early enough to keep the ‘fog’ off the lens, then there is finding which way the kids breathe and finally competing with the coaches telling the kids not to breathe so much. It’s a constant battle of which side of the pool to be on, what stroke are they doing and how do we get enough light in the pool area when there aren’t any windows (or vice versa for those with windows on 1 - 2 sides of the pool area).
Here are a few great splash shots we captured during the Sectional meet in Dubuque, Iowa. Next up, State swimming at Marshalltown! The MACR Sharks swam their hardest for the last chance to drop time to qualify for State and Regionals. It is heart-breaking to see the kids miss their qualifying time by 0:00.03 (yes, that happened to us last year, 3 hundreds of a second).
Today we cheer for those kids that are moving on, pushing forward and swimming fierce to compete against some of the top swimmers in the state of Iowa, and we make our plan to drop the time for next year.
Way to go, Sharks! We are proud to capture your progress and be there to cheer you on!
